This evening we took Reese for her first stroll outside. The weather was perfect for a visit to the rose garden.
On the way home from school today, Sylvia decided we should dye Easter eggs tonight. So we stopped by CVS and picked up a kit. It’s never too early to dye Easter eggs, right? Right?

Eggs for the Family
Sylvia wanted to go play at the beach today so we went there after her haircut. We made sand castles and then dipped our feet in the water. Owen and Liz met up with us. The kids made mud pies and basked in the sun. The water was really still so it felt really inviting despite how chilly it was on our toes. We are also taking advantage of the super warm up because they are predicting SNOW for the Spring Equinox this weekend. So, we may be building snowmen tomorrow. You can never tell.
I cut Sylvia’s hair for the first time at home in February 2009. Today, she had her first official haircut at a place in Wilmette called “Kidsnips.” It was a bit of sensory overload, but it seems to do the trick of distraction during the haircut. Sylvia picked out a Diego movie and sat in a boat while she got her trim. Her hair is now all even (but still twirlable for bedtime).
On Thursday morning, Will and Heather had their second little boy – Thomas Morgan Wallace. They arrived home today, and baby and mother are doing well.

Congratulations to the whole family, and welcome, Thomas!
Yesterday we began construction on the Shabashanique Theater for Dance, Music, and Performance. Today after applying the final artistic details, the theater opened with its first performance of The Nutcracker starring Clara, Marie, and Rudolph. The role of Herr Drosselmeyer was performed fittingly enough by Santa Claus.

Sylvia behind the scenes

The curtain rises

Opening scene of the Nutcracker
The Nutcracker as told by Sylvia:
One time Santa put a lot of presents in a lot rooms where every kid was, and then all of the kids slept, and then they opened the presents, and one kid saw a big purple tutu. And She danced around in her room and said, ‘La La La. I’m a princess.”
And then she came out of the curtains and danced beautifully and twirled. And one time her mother said that it was broken but she looked down at the back of her tutu and it was torn. And then she bonked her head, and she cried. And then her mother gave her a bandaid, and her grandma sewed her purple tutu, and she could dance again.
And then one that kitty cat on the drawing on the front (of the theater) looked over and it saw a big squid, and it bonked its head on the squid, and the squid died, and the kitty said, “Eww yuck.” And the mother said, “Eww Yuck.”
And then the grandma came over to her house and touched the squid on her head, and then she tried to pick it up, but it was too stuck.
The End.
