Yesterday Sylvia, Darcie, Sabrina, and Baby Quin spent the cold morning at the Exploritorium. Sylvia climbed into the big kid play area and even rode down the 3-story spiral slide with Darcie.

This morning Sylvia and I returned to the Exploritorium. We still climbed into the big kid play area, but the slide was just a little too fast yesterday, so we skipped it. We did hit all of the old standards – train set, dress-up stage, water fountains, and the big soft blocks.

Our friend Danny Joe has produced a spec children’s show called Danny Joe’s Treehouse to which Sylvia has become addicted (Danny, please finish the second episode!). On the show Danny makes an ‘observation tube’ a little tube for focussing on things and observing the world. Sylvia and her friend Asher illustrate how they are to be used:

Dede and Papa visited this weekend and after a year of research and careful planning, they purchased a condo in Evanston. The building is a beautiful new seven-story structure just a few blocks away from our place.

It’s a one bedroom unit that overlooks downtown Evanston and (to Sylvia’s delight) the Metra train tracks. Congratulations, Dede and Papa, and welcome to the neighborhood!

Of course we played during their visit as well. On Saturday we visited the aquarium where we saw three (three!) scuba divers.

We’ve been very busy here at Sylvia and Co.  So busy we haven’t been blogging.  Last weekend, Grandmama came to Chicago.  Chris and I got to see a movie, go out to dinner, and go to Second City for some laughs.  G’s visit included eating pancakes, a trip to Wagner Farm, and two trips to the bakery for some cookies.  Here are some of our favorite photos from her visit.

This was the front yard on January 10:

This is the front yard today:

The sidewalks have turned into small lakes today as sunny 50 degree weather melted the two feet of snow we have been living under for the last month.

Sylvia and Zella Rose had lots of fun splashing in all of the puddles. Here they are drying off and playing with play dough:

It’s been cold so I’ve been baking.  Sylvia is relishing the delights of licking the bowl the clean.
