Sylvia & Reese met Aanya today.
We are all missing Pop-Pop today. We wish Grandmom could have joined him on his visit. We had wonderful weather on his trip up. It cooled off a bit, but was warm enough for Bennisons, the Beach, nice walks, and the playground. Sylvia loved having Pop-Pop as her bunk mate in the “bonkbed” and is and planning for future sleepovers.
We are soaking up our last few days of mid-week beach trips. We met Kristin and Sofie and Liz and Owen this morning. Owen and Sylvia made several sand soups and played in the lake. Reese was inspired by Sofie and tried her first fistful of sand (does this qualify as her first solids?). Sofie is a brave 8 1/2 month old. She crawled straight into the lake and had no qualms about joining Owen and Sylvia in digging. Sylvia has gotten so strong. She walked both to and from the beach. We discovered an awesome hopscotch chalk drawing with 50 squares so Sylvia hopscotched to the beach and home. She also found a dried dead worm in the shape of an “S.” She was quite thrilled by this find. We took a picture of it as a consolation as I thought it best to leave it in nature and not bring it home.

Reese was born on the eve of a full moon and Tuesday night was her fifth full moon after her birth. It’s amazing to see how involved and intentional in her actions and play have become. She is a little decisive person already. She wants certain rattles and teethers, likes to have different activities and types of interaction whether we are tickling her, reading with her, talking to her on her play gym or in her chair, and she expresses her discontent when she wants something else to happen. She did great on our trip to NY, and obviously missed Sylvia. As she has been reaching for Sylvia and tries to engage Sylvia in her own way all throughout the day. Sylvia responds when the mood strikes piling Reese up with toys (Sylvia even shared ballet bear – a big thing to share for Sylvia). Reese tries to pull Sylvia’s hair (or anyone’s) and reach for our cheeks for kisses. Reese likes the flying baby routine and is quite ticklish underneath her arms. Reese is curious about Sylvia’s dancing and playing and watches her intently often smiling even when Sylvia roars like a lion at her. She has begun sleeping in longer stretches usually from 8pm-2am. Sometimes we have to give her a little back rub at midnight but she seems to have moved beyond the midnight feeding (though last night she wanted a little milkshake at 12). She usually flips herself over to sleep on her belly; we’ve given up trying to change this. Reese likes to babble and kind of yodels on her own drool. She continues to try out different vocalizations and even sings little songs. Her thighs are quite squishy with lots of rolls in them that kind of jiggle when walking in the stroller. It’s hard to believe five months have gone by quite quickly. I think sense it is coming to the end of the summer and Sylvia’s fourth birthday is only a month away it feels like so many changes are occurring at once. I start school next Monday and Sylvia starts September 7th. Reese starts with her new babysitter on Friday. Rose will be coming three days a week to babysit while I’m in school with her baby boy Vance who is also five months old.
Reese was a rockstar on the late flight. We had an infamous/famous person on board. I was juggling too many bags & feeling a bit shy to ask for a photo with the former governor/celebrity apprentice star. Half the plane had their picture taken with him.
Reese got to take in some of Long Island Sound on our stroll through Norwalk today. We are now walking in circles through Laguardia hoping to induce a deep sleep coma prior to boarding our (yikes!) delayed evening flight.
We left NY for CT yesterday to visit Adrian, Jess, & Callaway. Here are some photo attempts of goodbye hugs with Elea. When we arrived in Norwalk, we realized that Reese & Callaway have the same sense of style – check out the matching dresses.
Another day of big decisions of what to do in NY: nap, eat, or stroll. Elea showed Reese some old growth forest in NY on our stroll to the northern tip of Manhattan. Actually, both babies slept through the entire walk. They woke up just in time for the farmer’s market. Reese met Shaira & Arian in between naps & eating. I got to play a word game called bananagrams. Shaira & I play scrabble online long distance all the time so it was fun getting to flex our word muscles in person.
